I've always thought it was ridiculous whenever I heard girls talking about how they had to take several pregnancy tests because the first one was confusing or they just couldn't believe it. I mean, it's a pretty basic test to read. One line = not pregnant. Two lines = pregnant. Just pee on the stick and see what happens, right? Right?
Not exactly.
So I honestly think I knew I was pregnant within 48 hours of conception. That might sound crazy, but something just felt different inside of me, down there, you know? But I didn't want to believe I might be in case I wasn't, so I kind of just ignored it and went on with life. Praying every day that I was pregnant.
And then I started having to go pee all the time. Maybe I was just drinking a lot of water? And then I was cramping on the Thursday before I found out, which, according to the online pregnancy calendars I had been studying every spare moment, was when the blastocyst implanted. Which often causes cramps. Friday I noticed I was just exhausted all day. I hadn't been getting as much sleep as normal that week, but I really shouldn't have been THAT tired. Saturday my stomach started feeling queasy, and by Saturday night I just had to know. I was planning to wait until Monday, the day my period should come, but I just couldn't wait any longer.
Enter the Pregnancy Test.
So we are waiting and watching the little screen, and the whole time I am praying like crazy that two lines show up. And there's one line.... and there's two...
"no, are there two?"
"I dunno?"
"It's so faint. Maybe we're making this up?"
"I think there are two lines. Can you see that second line?"
"Did it look like that the whole time?"
"Maybe if we put it up in the light, the second line will show up better."
"It says no matter how faint the second line is, if there are two, you are pregnant."
"Yes, but are there really two? I think we're just seeing things."
That is pretty much a verbatim transcription of that conversation, according to my memory.
So we bought a second test from Walgreens, one of the nice (expensive) digital ones that says "Pregnant" or "Not Pregnant". And three minutes later we knew that we were pregnant! :D
So now I understand why everyone has to take more than one test. That second line was so hard to see!
Everybody has a story. Here's mine. It might not seem all that exciting on the surface, but when you look close enough, it has all the important parts: romance, adventure, beauty, and love.

I'm PREGNANT!
And I still can hardly believe it! I'm pretty sure I've wanted to be a mom since I was about five. AND NOW I AM! I'm not sure I have ever been so excited about anything in my entire life (even getting married to Isaac... which I was pretty excited about ;D)! Honestly it still feels unreal, despite the fact that physically it feels very, VERY real. Knowing that there is this tiny person growing inside of me is insane. This child that will have its own appearance, personality, fingerprints, relationships, memories, feelings, victories, heartbreaks (that thought breaks my heart!), stories, struggles, character.... This person is being created right now INSIDE MY BODY! It's so weird! And EXCITING!
Isaac and I have been married for almost three years, but we have been waiting to have kids until we both graduated from OSU. It was kind of torturous, having everything in place to have a family, but having to wait. Isaac used to joke about having to count my birth control pills. ;)
But now we are both graduated, Isaac will have a teaching job this fall (I know he will because God is faithful and provides!), and the timing is so perfect. It's God perfect. That is something I have experienced over and over throughout my life. No matter how I think something should go or how bad I want something NOW, God's timing and purposes are so completely perfect. I love it!
Now a confession: I basically set up this blog with the intention of using it to chronicle and share my life as a mother. I know, I started it well over a year before I actually got pregnant, but that was honestly on my mind when I started it. I wanted to have a place to share these exciting events with my family and friends who live all over the place. So you can expect lots of preggo posts for the next eight months! Enjoy! :)
